9:58 p.m.-2003-08-16 Ahoy mateys! We've added two members to the crew! They still haven't earned their sealegs yet, but bless my pirate heart, but they're cute lil buggers. Still nameless as Thing 1 and Thing 2 (the latter is looking at the camera). We shanghai'd them away from a local plant nursery. We'd gone down to see a guy about some kittens he had, but none of them caught my fancy. It happened, by incident, that a feral cat had had her kittens at said nursery (where we stopped to try and get directions to the guy's house), and when we couldn't find a kitty at his house, we went back to the nursery and spent more time than I want to admit 'fishing' for kittens! Thing 1 was all cute and snuggly and was easily captured, but Thing 2 led us on a merry chase of the peat moss baskets! Cute lil biters. No replacement for Axel, of course, but darn theraputic on their own! Thing 1 is as sweet and ladylike as one could imagine, just mellow and laid back. Thing 2 is her polar opposite, a fiery little kitty with a naughty streak a mile wide! It's been /ten years/ since I had a kitten! And the cutest thing: they sound like broken squeaky toys when they mau! They don't me-ow, it's more like 'squika squika'. ADORABLE! However, our older cat is NOT amused. She doesn't like roommates much. The parrot, on the other hand, is enchanted. He keeps watching the kittens and then announcing, "Is it a bummer? Its a CAT!" Or, in a thrilled voice, "WEIRD!" We're not sure what that means, but he certainly seems to enjoy them! All kitteny-fuzzy, The Captain
