4:47 p.m.-2004-10-01 So the mountain finally blew...sort of anticlimactic....it wasn't a very /big/ eruption, but I've still been glued to the TV since it happened. I was fascinated with Mt St Helens as a kid (I was 5), and I've sort of been waiting the whole time I've lived in Washington State for another, so this was sort of cool...but not as cool as it could've been. All I know, is that at 12:00 noon when it went off, Bertha went bonkers and barked her head off for about 10 minutes...then went back to sleep. Of course, now I can't do anything but cough; they say air quality isn't that bad in the area, so maybe it's psychosomatic, but I hadn't needed my inhaler for weeks, then all the sudden, I do. I find volcanos fascinating. I'm a regular visitor to several sites, most notably the USGS site, perusing both American and world wide volcanic activities. Personally, I still feel sort of odd, living under the shadow of Mt Rainier...if that girl decides to go, good bye Tacoma... The Captain
